These surfaces, especially designed for mosaic art are created from 3/4 in. (20mm) MDF, the preferred substrate for mosaic artists. In order to provide a flush front surface, the mirror has been embedded in the front of the base. This not only provides a smooth surface but also creates more usable mirror surface. In addition, this makes the actual mirror more stable for shipping and hanging. We recommend covering the mirror with painter''''s low-tack tape to protect it while applying your tesserae.
